Keeping Cold Food Cold: Tips for Consumers on Preparing Food Safely at Home

Each September marks National Food Safety Education Month (NFSEM), which builds public awareness of the restaurant industry's commitment to serving safe food.

There's a different theme for NFSEM each year. Several years ago, the theme was "Be Cool, Chill Out — Refrigerate Promptly" — focused on the procedures restaurateurs follow to keep food cold during preparation, storage, cold holding, cooling and receiving.

Many of the procedures restaurants follow are also good reminders for consumers and at-home cooks too. So when it comes to cooking at home, here are some tips for consumers on how to Be Cool, Chill Out, and Refrigerate Promptly!
